Sunday Sweets: Super Mario Wedding Cake

Who here in my generation doesn't remember the Super Mario brothers? Ah yes, the square controllers, the thumb blisters, that annoying music that played endlessly in your head every night when you were trying to sleep...

Well, two people with those fond memories grew up, found each other, and decided to get married. Then they commissioned this wedding cake:

Gorgeous, no? But the real beauty is in the details; check this out:

That multi-colored ring is the Rainbow Road (I believe from Mario Kart), and it's made of hard sugar candy, like a lollipop.

Look how adorable:

And just crazy detailing:

Lookit the tiny bananas in the road! Ack! I love them!

This masterpiece was created by Beth over at Let Them Eat Cake, and the photos were originally uploaded here.

Interestingly enough, the other Mario-themed wedding cake I was going to feature anyway is the one this couple reference as their own inspiration cake - small world! Here it is:

Too cute, and also with beautifully done details. It was created by Robin at Gateaux Inc, and the photo was originally uploaded here.

Sadness Takes on Cake Form

Something about the exuberant inscription paired with this pathetic Wrecky mess is totally tickling my funny bone. I'm not sure what Ashley is "Freeeeeee" from, but evidently it's not melting Wrecks with wonky candles and wax drippings.

Thanks to Monique R., Wreckporter extraordinaire.

UPDATE: Aha, we have back story! Thanks to Melissa for providing the original link.

Optimus Wrecks

Some cake designs are so popular, I get to see all kinds of Wrecky variations. I'm having way too much fun with it, too; the other day I was positively giddy when I received my 5th Costco Princess & the Frog themed Wreck (stay tuned for that post). Yep, I need to get out more. In the meantime, though, let me share my Transformers Wrecks collection with y'all.

First, the "official" design, for reference:

So no matter what, you know someone's going to have purple poo in the morning.

Here's Wreck #1, or as I like to call it, Magma Madness:

But, you know, orange magma... red flames: at least they're related.

Next, Wreck #2: the Crackling Blood Bath:

Kinda hurts to look at, doesn't it?

And finally, behind Wrecky Door #3:

The Bubbly Stuff That Would Not Be Named. I think it's growing, too; it seems to be creeping insidiously up over the inscription.

Beth W., Cades, & Jennifer N., your cakes may not have gotten their flames in icing, but at least they got flamed here on Wrecks. Eh?

THAT...Doesn't Look Like Dirt

Intestines?
Sure.
Brain matter?
Maybe.
Squiggly pile of earthworms?
I could see it.
Dirt?
DIRT?!? Heck no!

Unless we're looking at the earthly remains of Edward (eeewwwww), then I'm afraid I just don't get it. And Beth H., that spider is totally freaking me out.

Stop the Insanity!!

I discovered something today that was so mind-blowing that I just had to share. And let me preface it by saying I'm not calling this entry a Wreck; it's just crazy.

So here's the deal: most of you know how much I love Cute Overload, right? No? Well, I do. Ok, so the other day I was cruisin' the cute, and I came across this photo:

Frickin' adorable, I know, but that's not the point. The point is, it was posted on CO just a few days ago, but over two weeks ago Melinda L. sent me this cake, made by Cakes With a Difference:

What the hey? Is there some crazy cat cake creating time warp going on? (Try saying that 3 times fast...) These are so similar, now I'm dying to know if this cake was actually made for the snuggle-cats' owner. Anyone know?

When Decorators Need to Practice Their Roses

When there's a new kid in the bakery, these designs help speed up the on-the-job training:

The "Rose Bush".
(I'm told there's a cake under there...)

The "Rosy Age".

I had to stare at this one for several long seconds before I realized the roses are supposed to spell out the number 20. The cool thing is, though, this cake has a built-in clock: see where the light pink roses meet the darker ones on the 2? That's when the first decorator's shift ended.

(Gotta love that candle placement, too.)

And of course, the "Haven't-Learned-to-Write-with-Icing-Yet".

No room for an inscription = no complaints about messy handwriting! Not to mention there's no chance of spelling errors, random quotation marking, or becoming famous on the 'net for all the wrong reasons.

The best part? The people who ordered the first and last cakes didn't even ask for that many roses. So Kim C. & Jill S., thanks for showing us just how specific we need to be when ordering baked goods. Now we know.

(Everybody together now: "And knowing is half the battle!")
